ABOUT

To seek and to wander is to explore, and then know. Through music that empowers to music that questions to music that pleads, Allyson strives to capture the motion of human existence through sound and silence.

With a deep love of connection and relentless exploration, Allyson composes music that explores different facets of the human condition. Rooted in a vocal and choral background, she writes melodically driven music for a myriad of voices, instruments, and ensembles. Her music is primarily inspired by human emotions and narratives, confronting philosophical questions and commenting on growth, self-expression, and relationships. Known for her choral works, she frequently sets texts penned by female lyricists, including her own texts. Her works have been premiered by the Ciompi Quartet, the UNCG Chamber Singers, UNCG’s Coro di Belle Voci, and the North Carolina Governor’s School East Mixed Choir. Notably, Allyson is a 2025 winner of the HerVoice Emerging Women Composers Competition, with her winning work to be premiered by the Santa Fe Desert Chorale in the summer of 2027.

Allyson’s mission as a composer and artist is to bridge the gap between composer, performer, and audience. As such, she aims to communicate and interact with performers through workshops, residencies, video calls, and socials as frequently as possible. In addition to composition, Allyson remains an active conductor and soprano, directing and singing with various choral ensembles.  She is also one-third of The Beacon Trio: composers and vocalists focused on illuminating lesser-known narratives and female voices.

Allyson holds a master’s degree in composition and a post-baccalaureate certificate in conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a bachelor’s degree in music with honors from Davidson College. Her mentors include Sherry Blevins, Stacy Garrop, Jocelyn Hagen, and Lindsay Kesselman.
